Kiezkind

Style:
Cafe

More:
Indoor playground!

Reviews:
Kiezkind is located, not surprisingly, in the child-abundant, yuppie, Prenzlauer Berg. It is a cafe that serves only the most basic food (soup of the day, cakes, sandwiches), but is - most importantly - geared towards children (especially toddlers) and their parents: it has plenty of books, games and an indoor sandbox. In addition, there are Bobbycars, tricycles and other such fun toys outside, for sunny days. The place is naturally totally smoke free, although I have seen parents smoking outside in one of the corners.

The Basics:
Helmholtzplatz 1, 10437, Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg

Accessible? There are no stairs; and the toilets seem to have a rail, but the door is very narrow (perhaps 70 cm wide?) - it is possible that there is another way into the toilets.

Child-Friendliness? well, this is what this place is all about! this includes even potties, sinks and toilet bowls in the right size, etc.

Lavandevil

Style:
Restaurant/Pub with "international food"

More:
Claims to have "the hottest (as in spiciest!) pizza in Berlin"

Reviews:
Qype has two good reviews - both mention how cosy and homey this place is; while one claims that the pizza served there is the second best in Berlin, after Il Casolare

The Basics:
Schustehrusstr. 3, 10585, Berlin-Charlottenburg

Accessible? according to the Rollimobil site, it is. We haven't measured the toilets, steps, etc. ourselves. Door is 102cm wide; no mentioning of wheelchair toilets.

Child-Friendliness? Between September and May, every Saturday and Sunday at 4pm, there is puppet theatre show in the place

Brachvogel

Style:
Beer Garden (Biergarten) with some German food and service

More:

Reviews:
Qype user "Kreuzberger" is disappointed of Brachvogel (in German). The service is quick; but the menu neglected to mention that there is ham in the avocado salad (to that vegetarian's dismay); the dishes were rather small for the pricing; and the audience was not "young" enough: mostly young parents or young people with their older parents. Kreuzberger summarises by writing that going there for a beer-garden experience or because it is kids-friendly and has a mini-golf course is one thing, but don't go there for the food.

Cafe am Neuen See

The Basics:

Lichtensteinallee 2, 10787 Berlin (in the Middle of the Tiergarten park, close to the Zoologischer Garten station)

URL:

Accessible?

Child-Friendliness?
Fairly. They have a playground outside when its fair, and in general, you can also see ducks, birds, fish and trees, which is all very child-friendly. No play-corner inside, though.

Style:
Biergarten (beer garden) with Pizzas, German beer-garten food, etc.

More:
In our opinion, one of the best and friendliest beer gardens in Berlin; they have a self-service restaurant with grilled sausages and other types of German food; pretty good (and large) pizzas; and a serviced cafe/restaurant, which is pretty good. And it is on a lake side, in a middle of a huge park, which is a green lung in the middle of the city.

Reviews:
On Moscow News, Phoebe Taplin writes: "[...] a great restaurant "Am Neuen See," with a self-service section at weekends which does huge pizzas and even bigger beers at wooden trestle tables by the water."

Satt and Selig

The Basics:

Carl-Schurz-Str. 47, 13597 Berlin

URL: sattundselig.de

Accessible? There is wheelchair accessible WC. However, there is a small stair just before it.

Child-Friendliness? There is a nappy changing table (in the disabled toilets); and there is a small play corner inside; outside, swings in the inner garden.

Style:
German and international

More:
German restaurant with many international dishes in an old, romantic building in the Old City of Spandau. Friendly staff and great accessibility.

Reviews:
In February 2008, we ate at Satt und Selig. All courses were very good and well-prepared, although a "Blue Cheeseburger" (that is, with blue cheese), which is listed as one of the house specialities, was standard, not more than that; a Creole Chicken was much better; desserts are house-made (except for ice-cream) and even the bread and butter are made in the restaurant. The prices are moderate, and we have finished at about 18 EUR p.p including drinks, entrée (salad) and a tip. In the summer, the exterior offers a view of the Spandau Nikolaikirche; there is also an internal yard with spring swings.
