Kiezkind is located, not surprisingly, in the child-abundant, yuppie, Prenzlauer Berg. It is a cafe that serves only the most basic food (soup of the day, cakes, sandwiches), but is - most importantly - geared towards children (especially toddlers) and their parents: it has plenty of books, games and an indoor sandbox. In addition, there are Bobbycars, tricycles and other such fun toys outside, for sunny days. The place is naturally totally smoke free, although I have seen parents smoking outside in one of the corners.

Accessible? There are no stairs; and the toilets seem to have a rail, but the door is very narrow (perhaps 70 cm wide?) - it is possible that there is another way into the toilets.
Child-Friendliness? well, this is what this place is all about! this includes even potties, sinks and toilet bowls in the right size, etc.

Fodor's write: "Japanese sushi, sashimi, yakitori, and dunburi dishes along with some Thai, Chinese, and Korean recipes are served in this groovy landmark restaurant, one of the finest sushi places in town. Chefs work with an almost religious devotion to quality and imagination (they even wear shirts saying sushi warrior), and the knowledgeable Asian-German staff makes you feel at home. The spicy, fresh, and healthy ingredients and the laid-back vibe pack the restaurant in the evening, so reservations are a must. Try to get a seat at the sushi bar or at one of the three more private tables at the window."

Kuchen Kaiser is one of our old recommended restaurants. It is located in Kreuzberg, and has a real Kreuzberg spirit: a mixture of locals of all kinds, foods of all kinds (mostly German, though) and excellent cakes.
Jane, for example, writes: "Kuchen Kaiser, a restaurant in a somewhat residential area that claimed to be the emperor of cakes. We got a light lunch to ensure we had room for cake. We all got different kinds and shared them…and they were all delicious"

Child-Friendliness? very much, including a "surprise pack" for children and general tolerance; outside, there is a garden, but there isn't a real playground; changing a baby is done in the toilets and is not highly comfortable.

Helmut Kohl was sort of jolly- and adorable-looking. How appropriate for someone from the Pfalz! His dish was Saumagen, which Damon ordered. I ordered the Roulade, the favorite dish of a physicist who came from the former East Germany. I hope everyone knows the name of that chancellor! The service at the restaurant was super-friendly and we even got a little free seafood appetizer."
