The Shy Chef

Style:
chef style

More:
a secret private restaurant in a flat, ran by a married couple that cooks to not more than six guests.

Reviews:
The I Heart Berlin blog people have gone to the shy chef: "Our hosts, a Swedish/Irish couple, served us our dinner in 6 courses, every one of them accompanied by an exquisite wine. Every dish looked more delicately arranged than the other and all of them easily qualified as Gourmet Cuisine. In the end they asked us, which meal we liked best. But I could hardly decide, was it the goat cheese salad, the pork filet rolled up in prosciutto or the nut brownie on vanilla creme with hot raspberries? Hm… I just know one thing for sure:I could eat like this every day."

Altes Zollhaus

Style:
Chef Restaurant, high class

More:
One of the best "new German" restaurants

Reservations highly recommended (open from 6 pm)

Reviews:
10Best ranks it as one of the best restaurants in Berlin, adding "Housed in a timber customs house that overlooks the Landwehrkanal, Altes Zollhaus specializes in organic nouvelle fare. Indeed, the restaurant, adorned with rustic furniture and set amid tall trees, recollects the charm and elegance of a bygone era. Menu highlights include seasonal dishes like Brandenburg duck with cream potatoes, and roasted steinbutt with lobster sauce, spinach and cauliflower purée. A wonderful wine list complements these choices, and during warm weather, you can choose a charming garden as your dining backdrop. Three-, four- and five-course prix fixe dinners are available. "

Ma

Style:
Chef Restaurant

More:
Tim Raue's restaurant, "Chinese tinted European Cuisine" (Financial Times)

Reviews:

Bertrand Benoit writes a review in Financial Times: "Raue has nicely matured since Restaurant 44 - a highly controlled performance, at once self-confident and undiminished in its ability to surprise. [...] Dinner for two including wines: €375" (more in his review, including description of the excellent and the not-so-excellent dishes he has had)

Bloomberg's have a not so enthusiastic review - with the bottom line - a god restaurant, but not "out of this world" and an experience mostly for foodies.

Guy

Style:
Mediterranean

More: one of Berlin's fancy chef-restaurant, expensive

Reviews
:
From Location Site: " An exclusive address overlooking the Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin's most beautiful place and a highly praised Mediterranean cuisine make the restaurant Guy a top choice for a nightly dinner in central Berlin. On four floors, the delicious dishes are served in an elegant, timelessly noble ambience. One of the highlights at Guy restaurant is the extremely popular business lunch that provides the opportunity to sample some of the superb menu selections at an attractive price, with quick service and a wine list of approximately 150 wines to complement your menu selection. In summer, there is a beautiful Mediterranean inner yard for outside dining and a small champagne and espresso bar for aperitifs or digestifs. The Guy restaurant offers space for up to 150 people, a reservation is recommended, however, as the Guy is very popular currently and often full to the last seat. The Guy restaurant is an exclusive dining location and recommendation for all gourmets."

Facil

Style:
Chef Restaurant, Fusion/International

More: At the fifth floor of The Mandala Hotel in Potsdamer Platz , well designed; 1 Michelin Star, 17 Gaullt Millau points.

Reviews:
Location Site adds: "opened in 2001, definitely has a place in the ranks of Berlin's finest dining locations. It is located on the fifth floor of the Mandala hotel on Potsdamer Platz. As one of the prime restaurants of Berlin, it offers both an outstanding international cuisine and a wonderfully relaxed, zen-like atmosphere. Elegant natural materials such as mahogany and marble were used to create the charming design of the restaurant, the glass roof allows to dine with a view of the sky. Chef de cuisine Michael Kempf regularly delivers inspiring menues that are light and perfectly prepared, his seafood creations are always worth a try. A recommendation not just for guests of the hotel!"

Fodor's, too, recommends this restaurant and calls it "one of Germany's top restaurants".
