Lizzie writes in "Hollow Legs": "I couldn't leave Berlin without eating potatoes and Sauerkraut. We went to a restaurant called Chez Gino and tried to decipher the menu. In the end, I asked the waitress for a recommendation. She told me the Boudin Noir with potato puree and Sauerkraut is what she would have picked. With some apprehension as I'm not even a fan of black pudding, I went with her suggestion (more sausage!).

Unfortunately I completely forgot to take a photo at the beginning, so I have just a half eaten one. I loved the sauerkraut; it's tang cut through the richness of the sausage perfectly. My dining companions (especially the veggie) turned rather green when I explained what the sausage consisted of, but I actually really enjoyed it, much more than I thought I would. It's texture was very soft, with a nice, almost crunchy casing."

There are several good reviews on the restaurant in Qype. Two of the four recommend the pomelo salad; one recommends a quite peculiar thing, that doesn't seem very Vietnamese: a mixture of meat and cheese. All rave the food, but say that the service lacks on timeliness and one states that the prices are somewhat high relatively to other Vietnamese places in the area: 30 EUR p.p with no specific and "expensive" orders.

Another good review on I Heart Berlin : "I had Argentinean steak with a crust of fried carrot slices. What sounds not Asian at all really had the typical Vietnamese mix of spices and flavours in it, but with a very creative and unusual note. I loved it!"

In our opinion, one of the best and friendliest beer gardens in Berlin; they have a self-service restaurant with grilled sausages and other types of German food; pretty good (and large) pizzas; and a serviced cafe/restaurant, which is pretty good. And it is on a lake side, in a middle of a huge park, which is a green lung in the middle of the city.

Personally, I cannot comment on vegan food, because of my aversion of milk substitutes, especially soy-based ones (to which I am slightly sensitive) and a general belief that soy-based latte is something served in penal colonies to the really horrible prisoners.

Therefore, I will leave the stage to Lizzy from the Trying Veganism blog, who writes: "They have a few vegan dishes, too, which I'm eager to try. For example I've never eaten vegan mozzarella before. Is it any good? Well I guess I'll know after ordering their vegan pizza. [...] I only had a soy latte last time (they didn't use alpro though, it tasted kind of dusty; I love alpro, I think it's the best soy milk ever)". Lizzy was later back in Cafe V, trying a huge salad.

Another review could be found in Shaina's blog: "It is in a very cool old building. I had a dish with spatchel (thick German pasta) and a raspberry beer that is a famous German specialty. It was good, but too sweet to have more then one glass."

Cafe Einstein is a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type of thing: they have a chain of Starbucks-clones all over town, which are just what you'd expect when you hear the term "Starbucks Clone". They also have an amazing coffee-house, full of atmosphere, good cakes and fine food, on Kurfürstenstraße; another quite decent house is on the Unter den Linden avenue, though not as magical as the original one .

Not exactly a review. Matt Ruff writes in his Blog: "Afterwards I go with Martina Kohl and some of the museum staff to eat wienerschnitzel at the Cafe Einstein (the cooking's not quite as good as Mrs. Brecht's, but it'll do). " Despite the fact that he linked to the original Einstein
Cafe, he was probably at the Under den Linden branch (because of his visit to the Kennedy Museum), which is - as already mentioned - not as enchanted.

Jessica Aldred writes on "BeenThere" (about the Kurfuerstenstrasse branch): "Atmospheric cafe/restaurant inside an old villa. Walk through the dark wood and red leather interior to the pretty garden courtyard at the back. Serves great coffee and apple strudel."
